Limescale and bacteria such as Legionella in drinking water

Limescale and bacteria such as Legionella in drinking water are extremely important issues to be treated

So what remedy to take?

Technology “PEF” (Pulsed Electric Fields)

The innovative 100% effective system “All in One”

But what exactly is limestone?

The limescale in drinking water circulates in our homes through the water network, encrusting everything it finds.

Limestone is a compound of mineral salts that are part of the natural composition of water, that water which is essential for our health, with all the elements it contains.

We must therefore understand…
How can we eliminate the limescale deposits released by the water in its passage that encrust pipes, electrothermal devices and boilers, furthermore limestone is the ideal nest for biofilms which helps bacterial proliferation including Legionella.

  • Can we therefore use a technology capable of breaking down limestone and microorganisms present in the water?
  • Without modifying its natural organoleptic composition, with all its essential elements for our health?

After all, water has all the characteristics of a chemical element suitable for our daily, human and vital needs, its composition is rich in mineral salts essential to our body, including magnesium and calcium, which , by binding, they give rise to calcium carbonate, or limestone, a chemical compound similar to that of natural rocks, such as those in the beautiful caves in the form of stalactites and stalagmites.

The continuous passage of water leads to the accumulation of this rock daily and as an effect over time it creates the obstruction of pipes, filters and pipelines, it clings in particular to electrical resistances and to the internal parts of the boilers, creating layer upon layer a real insulation, which in addition to preventing the normal flow of water, decreases the thermal yield, consequently increasing the inevitable increase in energy costs.

Precisely calcium and magnesium, the main determinants that create scaling in drinking water, in fact play a crucial role in the diet, where water is the primary source, especially for intolerant individuals or with diets poor in minerals.
Water is our body’s primary nutrient and the minerals it contains are fundamental for our health and never more than now does our body need trace elements that it is unable to produce and which also play fundamental roles in the immune system.

But let’s not be alarmed

There is always a remedy for everything… a pity that to date the fight against limescale has been entrusted to ion exchange softeners, polyphosphate dispensers, osmosis membrane filters and magnets and electromagnets, or to induced frequency generators.

It is a pity that these Jurassic systems reduce limescale, but enormously alter the characteristics of the water, making it undrinkable and harmful to the body if swallowed or simply used to wash your hair, take a shower or brush your teeth!
Then in the kitchen… for example, the coffee sucks!

‘The users of these devices must be informed of the changes in the mineral composition caused by the treatments and of the possible consequences on the total intake of nutrients’ (World Health Organization, WHO. See note 2).

The use of ion exchange softeners, for example, fights limescale in the boiler and in the plumbing systems, but over time proves to be highly polluting and not very sustainable.
It is therefore not a real solution, but is normally installed due to its reasonable cost, even if the health regulations in this regard are very strict, and do not allow its use except with strict dosages of salt, but most of users either don’t know it or don’t.
(In fact, washing must be performed no less than 92 times a year, because the law requires it to be performed once every 4 days).

In fact, ion exchange softeners use salt, several ASLs discourage their use due to the large quantities of salts released into the environment, which then inevitably ends up in groundwater and rivers.
Those who use ion exchange softeners should therefore subject them to periodic checks, to ensure the safety of water intended for human consumption.

Reverse osmosis filters, they are extremely effective for removing any type of mineral present in the water, they have the characteristic of finely filtering the water that passes through them, eliminating most of the substances present, they retain calcium and magnesium, but also all the high essential mineral salts , this is why they make it tasteless or inert, depleted of all its properties and therefore undrinkable.
Sterile water suitable for your iron or car battery.
Furthermore, the counter filtration for cleaning consumes as much as it gets, an unnecessary waste. (to obtain 50 liters filtered for use, you throw away another 50 liters for washing the membranes)

The polyphosphate dispensers, which prevent calcium carbonate deposits and encrustations by forming a protective film inside the pipes, are certainly very cheap systems which however have major drawbacks, in fact they have the reputation of being extremely polluting. They are harmful to health as they release a quantity of polyphosphates into the waste water and with a percentage that exceeds the legal limits regarding the permitted quantity.
It goes without saying that the water treated in this way must circulate only in the technical service system and not in the one for human use.

The devices then classified as a physical system, are magnetic or ultrasound devices that break up the molecular bonds of the minerals and prevent the formation of the calcite crystal when the water reaches 40 degrees.
They therefore do not alter the mineral characteristics of the water, in fact they keep the hardness unchanged, only altering the physical form of the calcium salts, avoiding aggregation with magnesium.
These devices use a local magnetic or ultrasonic field.
They are certainly the cheapest and easy to install.
These devices are not always effective in all cases and usually do not give guarantees due to variable results.

Let’s see them in comparison

Activated carbon filters are very good for retaining chlorine, soaps and dissolved gases, organic molecules which normally alter the smell or taste of the water, but are useless for limescale, and even more they are the perfect habitat for the formation of bacterial colonies, and this is why they are often combined with the other systems seen previously.

Agreed anti-limescale, but that’s not all.

In fact, at the same time there is another great problem, and absolutely not negligible.

Water is a living element with all its living biological components, bacteria and microorganisms of all kinds populate it undisturbed.

  • How to sanitize water from live organic pollution?
  • That of bacteria, moulds, algae and viruses?

All the systems seen previously do not deal with it or only partially.
There are solutions for this too; UV rays lamps, ozonizers, chlorizers, chemical dosing systems, etc.

Excellent super tested systems and used for a long time, but are we really sure of their functioning?

The UV lamp is able to neutralize 99.9% of the bacteria present in the water, the radiation it produces attacks the DNA of bacteria, viruses and microorganisms.
The ultraviolet ray lambada is effective for a good stretch of piping, but not over long distances, in fact it is recommended to use it near the sampling point, therefore near the tap.

Ozonation allows you to take a step forward in the water purification process, because ozone removes microorganisms and destroys various micropollutants that are dangerous to health.
Ozonizing the water can last from 15 to 30 minutes, i.e. the useful contact time to obtain quality ozonated water.
Then there are the ozonizers for water used in purification systems, more complex but based on the same principle: add ozone created at the moment to the water to be disinfected. It is important to keep in mind that the ozonized water is active for about 15 minutes, then it turns into water rich in oxygen, still purified but less active.
Large reservations remain on the benefits of ozonized water for drinking as an adjuvant for health

Use of chlorine, or sodium hypochlorite, is a disinfectant used in water to prevent the formation and proliferation of bacteria along the main pipeline that brings water from the aqueduct to our homes.
According to current regulations, in fact, there must be a total absence in drinking water of microorganisms harmful to humans, in particular Enterococcus, Escherichia coli and Legionella.
Chlorine is a very useful disinfectant, thanks to it, in fact, it is possible to use the drinking water that arrives in our taps for drinking purposes.

The new horizons consist of new ‘physical’ water treatment systems, which can reduce the formation of limescale without however altering the chemical composition of the water and counteracting the formation of bacterial colonies and microorganisms harmful to human health.

PEF technology was born out of research for preservation in the food sector, with the aim of using alternative non-chemical systems for the sterilization of foods, such as milk, wine, fruit juices and beer, as well as foods of all types, from fruit to meat and fish.

An alternative to pasteurization, a thermal remediation process, which aims to minimize the health risks due to pathogenic microorganisms sensitive to heat, it is known that this procedure alters the chemical, physical and organoleptic characteristics of the food even if in a minimal, but still proves to be very good for the purpose.

Pulsed Electric Fields
Pulsed electric field (PEF) is an efficient non-thermal food processing technique that uses short, high voltage pulses.
These pulses induce the poration of plant, animal and microbial cells, leading to cellular disintegration and microbial inactivation.
PEF is instantaneous, targeted, flexible, energy efficient and because heat is kept to a minimum, products have a longer shelf life while retaining better nutritional value than traditional food processing techniques and significantly prolongs the shelf life.

Already implemented for some years and now consolidated, a source of development and study also by’ENEA

The question at this point is…
We understood that it acts inexorably with bacteria and other microorganisms, but what does it have to do with water and limestone?

Here comes the beauty!

Since this is a technology that acts in food products containing most of water, why not use it directly in it?

This is the question that the inventor of the device asked himself, which we will then go on to illustrate.

The use of controlled pulsed electric fields, through a series of direct electric discharges in the water, generates the transformation of calcium into aragonite and therefore does not allow it to bind to other salts present in drinking water, thus avoiding the annoying encrustations.
The beauty is that it absolutely does not alter the composition of the water, it keeps the dissolved minerals with all their benefits.

As verified and reported by FLORITE srl – Spin Off of the Milan Polytechnic
05 October 2018 – Milan Subject: Report on the execution of 4 tests.

  • Treatment of water with the PEF device increases the content of “amorphous” and the presence of possible hydrated forms.
  • This condition could be responsible for an increase in the solubility of calcium carbonate in water with a relative decrease in the accumulation of fixed residue on “external surfaces”.
  • In the treated sample, but heated to 60°C for 36 h, the main phase is aragonite.
  • In the 36 h period, the aragonite should have transformed into calcite (more stable polymorph), but this transformation did not occur.

The efficiency demonstrated by tests documented by accredited laboratories has highlighted that the use of this technology in water contaminated by bacteria such as:

  • Legionella pneumophila
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Escherichia coli
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Salmonella typhimurium
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Enterococcus faecalis

Destroys and neutralizes the proliferation of such strains.

Healthy water, without limestone and super-defense from harmful microorganisms.

The innovative device for the treatment of water intended for human and/or industrial use, conceived and patented by Mr. Walter Villa and produced in Italy by the Swiss company EXTRAUS S.A. and distributed in collaboration with HUB NANOTECH S.r.l. of Verona.

Science fiction?

No. Pure reality

After a few years of tests and verifications in the field, it was discovered that direct electric discharges make the water more fluid and accelerate the evaporation of the chlorine present in the water supply, once it is dispensed from the tap.

So a single tool that alone:

  • sanitizes the water from bacteria and microbes harmful to health such as Legionella,
  • prevents the formation of scale deposits, thus reducing the number of maintenance and system breakdowns,
  • it does not alter the metabolic composition of the water, therefore it keeps it integral with all its properties,
  • it makes the water more fluid, thus reducing the amount of detergents needed for personal and clothing cleaning.
  • accelerates the evaporation of chlorine, removing its typical unpleasant smell.

Space-saving and easy to install, it has almost no maintenance and consumes less electricity than a light bulb.

It has only one flaw if we want to call it that…

Let them tell you…
